******SPECIAL NOTES FROM STUDIO Q*******
Back on January 11, 2009, we aired a Studio Q special called "Halifax brushes with Rock 'n' Roll greatness!" Three incredible stories! And here are the links we talked about during the show, and some incredible photos from the collection of Lynn Robinson, the cousin of Boston's late lead singer, Bradley Delp.
1. A transplanted Haligonian duets with Sting, from coast to coast! You have GOT to hear this story:
2. Much More Music VJ and lead singer of Bucket Truck, Haligonian-via-Newfoundland's Matt Wells sings Zeppelin live onstage with one-half of Van Halen: Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony!
Click here to check out the video!
And check out Matt's latest music with Tim MacNeill, formerly of Halifax band, Arlibido - remember them? Matt and Tim have adopted the monniker "Lazybones" and have a couple of tunes on Myspace. Don't be expecting Bucket Truck!! Or even Arlibido ... but listen for Huey Lewis (YES, Huey Lewis) on harp on "Perfect Life".
3. "Studio Q" finally tracks down the Nova Scotian relatives of the incredible lead voice of the band Boston! The late great Brad Delp has family in the province, and we meet up with his cousin, Lynn Robinson. Check out these photos!
First, from August of 1966 ... ten years before Boston's landmark debut album ... a 15-year-old Bradley Delp brings a buddy with him to visit the relatives in Shubenacadie, NS. And look who it is ... guitar wiz, Tom Scholz! Several years before he enrolls at M.I.T. and changes the face (and sound) of rock 'n' roll forever! That's them at the back in the photo below ... Brad on the left, Tom on the right.

Below, not long before Brad's untimely death, he sends a great glossy of Boston on tour home to his Nova Scotia family - autographed for his 'cuz' Lynn, and her mom, "Aunt Pearl" ... that's the grown-up Tom Scholz with his guitar in the air:

ALSO ... in late February of '09, we first broadcast our two-part special with Colin Blunstone, lead singer of the 60s band, The Zombies, solo artist, Alan Parsons Project vocalist, etc. Here are some links from that show:
*** Check out this cool new TV ad from the Heart & Stroke Foundation featuring Halifax band, The Heavy Blinkers, performing The Zombies classic, "Care of Cell 44" ... works perfectly with the spot's concept!
Click here to hear the Heavy Blinkers play The Zombies on TV commercial!
*** I (J.C.) had the pleasure of seeing Colin with Rod Argent and The Zombies at the Fillmore in New York City last July ... here's some video with sadly poor audio quality of the band performing the aforementioned "Cell 44" at that New York gig:
Zombies - Care of Cell 44 - Fillmore at Irving Plaza NYC July 11 2008
The Great Scots
In May of 2009, we first aired an incredible special about The Great Scots - a five piece band launched in the early 60s who, donned in kilts and loaded with energy and raw talent, took America by storm in 1965-66, before grinding to a halt way before their time. At that time, The Great Scots were reunited for their first public performance in over 40 years at the Seahorse in Halifax, during which they became the second inductees into the Q104 "Rock of the Atlantic" WALL OF FAME (after their protegees, April Wine). If you haven't heard this story before you will not believe it. And if you haven't heard the story, then you've missed possibly THE best story of Nova Scotia rock 'n' roll success. Our latest encore edition of the program, in April of 2012 was in tribute to the late Dick Clark, including audio of Dick interviewing the band on "American Bandstand" in 1965, never re-aired anywhere before now. f
